Advanced technology, dedicated investigators, and incomparable facilities—these vast resources empower us to redefine the way the world treats cancer. It’s our work; it’s our passion; it’s our legacy. The Senior Director, Accounting ensures a timely and accurate closing process, as well as planning and leading a successful external financial audit for Taiho Oncology, Inc., Taiho Ventures, Inc., and Taiho Pharma Europe Ltd. Key responsibilities include timely financial reporting internally as well as to Taiho Pharma headquarters and Otsuka Holdings, and designing, implementing and maintaining effective accounting processes and sound internal controls.

    Responsibilities

    • Effectively utilizing the skills and capabilities of department members, ensures the timely and accurate closings under IFRS
    • Establishes monthly and quarterly closing and reporting timelines, making appropriate work assignments within the department
    • Prepares and submits monthly financial consolidation package and various types of financial reports for Taiho HQ and Otsuka Holding in a timely manner
    • Continues to pursue more efficient processes utilizing technologies available within and outside the company
    • Establishes, modifies, documents and coordinates the implementation of accounting and internal control procedures
    • Responsible for maintaining auditable documentation for Gross to Net Revenue calculations
    • Maintains Accounting Policy and chart of accounts
    • Plans for and responds to auditors’ inquiries, leading successful external audits
    • Responsible for implementation, maintenance or periodic upgrade of the financial system, working in collaboration with members of TOI’s IT department and an external system integrator
    • Supervises and coaches his/ her direct reports and creates positive working environment, enhancing cross-training and employee development
    • Works with an external tax firm for Federal and State tax filings, quarterly tax provision, and various types of ancillary tax inquiries from the states
    • Reviews audit results of employee expense reports to ensure compliance with company policies
    • Manages the relationship with the accounting department of 3PL company
    • Responsible for the bookkeeping activities of Taiho Ventures LLC (subsidiary in CA)
    • Reviews monthly Financial Statements for Taiho Pharma Europe Ltd (UK subsidiary) which are prepared by an outsourced accounting firm

    Qualifications

    Educational Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent experience
    • CPA is a plus

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 10 years’ progressively responsible finance/accounting experience in the pharmaceutical/ biotechnology industry, with leadership/employee management experience
    • Gross To Net Revenue calculation unique in pharma/ biotech industry
    • Knowledge of US GAAP and/ or IFRS
    • Big 4 audit experience highly preferred

    Other Skills and Abilities:

    • Strong people management skills
    • Previous experience using Microsoft Dynamics NAV, or similar systems
    • Familiar with Concur system, utilizing reporting capabilities for internal audit purposes
    • Demonstrated hands-on experience identifying, developing and implementing improvements to departmental processes that increase efficiency and maintain or improve quality
    • Excellent verbal and written communication and skills
    • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, as required, in a fast-paced matrixed team environment consisting of internal and external team members
    • Excellent planning, organization and time management skills including the ability to support and prioritize multiple projects
    • Ability to influence as well as provide direction, depending on the situation
    • Ability to learn, integrate complex information, and communicate key insights in clear, concise fashion to team members
    • Ability to understand and implement prioritization of deliverables as well as recognize and highlight conflicts in priorities
    • A positive attitude, flexibility and a proactive thought process

    Language Skills:

    • Ability to read, analyze and interpret scientific and technical information and data
    • Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written

    Mathematical Skills:

    • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

    Reasoning Ability:

    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

    Computer Skills:

    • Advanced in Microsoft Excel
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

    Physical Demands:

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear.
    • The employee is occasionally required to walk
